archiveME.ai's Deepfake Technology Stuns Viewers on NRK Debatten!

20 June 2024 By archiveME Team

We are thrilled to share that our founder, Bjørn Martin Hegnes, had the opportunity to participate in Debatten on NRK in their last broadcast before the summer! During the show, they demonstrated a deepfake created by archiveME.ai, sparking an engaging discussion on the implications of this innovative technology. For those unfamiliar, NRK Debatten is a live TV debate program in Norway, known for its engaging discussions on current events and social issues.

Watch the Deepfake and the Reveal

This was a unique platform to highlight our work and the broader societal impacts of deepfake technology. In this video, we show how Fredrik Solvang's colleague was deepfaked to appear as him. The real Fredrik appears midway through the clip, and at the end, we reveal the deepfake.

How We Did It

We ran recordings of Fredrik and his colleague through an AI model trained with Fredrik's facial movements, head, and voice. The result is a deepfake where the face, head, and voice look and sound like him, but everything is artificially generated. For example, if Fredrik had a facial injury like a cut or swelling, the AI model would correct it as a form of digital makeup. If he were 20 years older, we could make him appear 20 years younger. Additionally, if someone acted as his body double, the AI could seamlessly make them look and sound like Fredrik, as demonstrated in the video clip above.

"At archiveME.ai, our goal is to create deepfakes so realistic that they are invisible to the viewer, ensuring they don't distract or pull you away from the story," said Bjørn Martin Hegnes, founder of archiveME.ai.

Many viewers were astonished to discover that both the head and voice of Fredrik Solvang were deepfaked, with the only real part being from the neck down. We didn't reveal this during Debatten to avoid total confusion, but in the first few minutes of the show, neither Fredrik Solvang's real head nor voice was present.

Some viewers did spot the deepfake where Fredrik's colleague was impersonating him due to the attire, as Fredrik usually wears more fitted suits. However, they did not detect the deepfake of Fredrik himself, showcasing the impressive realism of our AI-generated model.

Watch the VFX Breakdown

For the best experience, we highly recommend watching the video in 4K and fullscreen mode to see the incredible details and quality.

In our VFX breakdown video, we will first show the deepfake of the head and voice. Then, we reveal which elements were deepfaked. Finally, we compare the original footage with the deepfake, both in terms of audio and visual.

This demonstration has generated significant interest and discussion about the potential and ethical implications of deepfake technology. Some viewers even admitted they couldn't tell that both Fredriks were deepfaked!
